IRS Announced Change for Tax Return Preparers
On October 29, 2015 the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released a major change on the requirements for non-credentialed tax return preparers. The agency announced that effective 2016, the limited rights to represent clients before the IRS held by non-credentialed preparers will be accorded to only those preparers participating in the IRS Annual Filing Season Program, a voluntary continuing education (CE) program. This means that the tax return preparer must participate in the Annual Filing Season Program for both the year of return preparation and the year of representation to represent their client.
To participate in the Annual Filing Season Program, non-credentialed tax return preparers according to the IRS, must complete either 15 or 18 hours of continues education from IRS-approved CE providers before Dec 31, 2015 in order to receive a 2016 Annual Filing Season Program Record of Completion.
Maryland Global University inc is approved to provide continues education courses by both the IRS, and the National Association of Public Accountancy Board (NASBA). You can browse those courses that fit your need from the professional development page. More information on this announcement can be found here.
